VoIP
- Voice over Internet Protocol
Voice over IP is a new breakthrough that is certain to revolutionize the
telecommunications industry. Deciding to switch to VoIP, and deciding
which VoIP provider may seem very foreign to some business owners, due to the
newness of the technology.
Some of the advantages of VoIP are:
- Reduced monthly costs
- Reduced long distance costs
- Uses existing broadband Internet connection -- no additional connections
- Using "softphone" technology, VoIP can be taken with you. Make
international calls from a local hotspot using your laptop or PocketPC.
- Easy hookup -- just hook into your Internet router, and connect your
existing phones.
However, you should be aware of some possible disadvantage:
- 911 service is not always available in all cities with VoIP. Contact
your provider for availability.
- On slower connections, a small quality degradation can sometimes be
detected.
- Some providers do not provide basic telephony features (see comparison
below)
- If your Internet goes down, so does your phone.
- VoIP is not yet regulated. While this means reduced taxes (and
therefore cost) it also means that the government does not step in to ensure
quality.
We have had a wonderful experience with VoIP. If you call us, you will
likely be connected via softphone VoIP connection. For more objective
